Group Critique: Adding and Commenting on Poems

You will need to add your poem to our Group Critique folder either by copy and pasting it into a new document or uploading it to the Google Drive folder.

OPTION 1 : Copy and Paste Your Poem

Go to Group Critique folder on Google Drive.

You will find the folder link in the Shared with Me part of your Google Drive or in the original email you got when added to the folder.

(If we haven't given you access yet, send us an email.)

Click the New button in the top left corner.

Click Google Docs.

When the Create in a shared folder? box pops up, click CREATE AND SHARE.

Rename the new document by clicking on the title.

Replace Untitled Document with your first and last name.

Copy and paste (or type) your poem into the Google Document.

OPTION 2 : Upload a Word Document

Make sure the Word Document you want to use is titled with your First and Last name.

Go to Group Critique folder on Google Drive.

(If we haven't given you access yet, just click the request access button.)

Click the New button in the top left corner.

Click File Upload and select the Word Document from your computer.

Adding Comments & Editing Suggestions

You can either add comments to parts of the poem or make editing suggestions directly on the document.

Highlight the portion of the text where you want to add a comment.

Click the plus sign on the right side of the screen.

Add compliments and suggestions for improvement. Your name and icon will appear at the top of the comment.

We ask poets only reply to comments if clarification is needed, not to defend or explain a writing choice.

To make editing suggestions directly on the document, click the Editing drop down menu in the top right corner of the document.

Change it to Suggesting.

The original text will remain, but will be crossed out. A comment box will appear on the right side of the page with your suggestion. You can reply with additional comments.
